If I understand correctly the FAA came up with these segments. Where do they get the 2.4%, 1,2%? Are these just minimums to be able to certify your plane? The standard 1/2 mile runway is 200ft/nm which equates to 3.3%. I'm a little puzzled
Regarding your query the 2.4% and 1.2% engine out gradients are used for certification of a two engine airplane. From where have they come, I dont know, I believe a performance engineer would be able to answer this.
Regarding 3.3%, I havent understood your point. I think thats the general IFR requiremnet in SIDS which is different from certification gradients.
Procedure gradients are different than A/C performance gradients. Following might be helpful in understanding.
JAR OPS 1.510 - Landing Destinations and Alternates
For instrument approaches with a missed approach gradient greater than 2.5%, the expected landing mass must allow a missed approach with a climb gradient equal to or greater than that in the OEI missed approach configuration and speed [see JAR 25.121(d)]. Alternative methods must be approved.
With a DH of below 200 feet the expected landing mass must allow a missed approach gradient of climb, with the critical engine failed and the speed and configuration for go-around for at least 2.5%, or the published gradient, whichever is the greater [ see JAR AWO 243 ]. Alternative methods must be approved.
